How do I apply for Aged Care Accommodation at OVAC ?

As indicated by the dept of human services, all Care Recipients assessments are done through contact with www.myagedcare.gov.au

What will I need to organise before applying for OVAC ?

Assessment and referral from www.myagedcare.gov.au

Who can live in the Ottoman Village ?

Any person over the age of 65 who is deemed as requiring care at an aged care facility. Eligibility is dependant on Government policy and more information can be obtained by www.myagedcare.gov.au

Which documents I need to collect (ex. Combined Assets and Income Assessment) ?

The document required by our facility is the assessment via the www.myagedcare.gov.au website. You will also be required to submit the assets and income assessment via centrelink, this assessment will advise Ottoman Village Aged Care as to you income and the fee to charge you.

Are the villages registered and accredited retirement villages ?

Ottoman Village Aged Care is accredited by Australian Aged Care Quality Agency. The Australian Aged Care Quality Agency is a department of the federal government that assessed the quality and overseas the quality of all aged care facilities.

How much does Aged Care cost ?

The Care Recipient fees are set by the Australian Government – Department of Health. Further clarification can be obtained from the Dept of Health website.  Fees vary dependant on the individuals income and assets.

Do I need to purchase a Licence to Occupy / Loan Licence ?

No. We do not have a licence to occupy.

Are there waiting lists at OVAC ?

OVAC does operate a waiting list. Referrals to the waiting list can be made by phone on 9309 7562 or email on admin@ottomanvillage.com.au   Referrals are generally done via www.myagedcare.gov.au but individuals may also refer.  The waiting list length varies at all times.

Can I look at a facility before applying for OVAC ?

Individuals are welcome to organise a tour with the manager or assistant manager at Ottoman Village Aged Care.  The tour is an opportunity to view the facility and discuss your individual circumstances.  Tours can be booked by calling the manager or assistant manager on 9309 7562 or emailing admin@ottomanvillage.com.au

Are there any legal costs involved ?

There are no legal fees associated with becoming a Care Recipient at Ottoman Village Aged Care. However, we recommend that individuals obtain independent financial and legal advise based on their individual circumstances.

Are you government funded ?

Ottoman Village Aged Care is operated by the Broadmeadows Turkish Islamic Society Inc with funding from the Australian Government – Department of Health.

What if I don't have any money? Will I be able to obtain a place in OVAC ?

Ottoman Village Aged Care is a not for profit aged care facility.  As per the Federal Government stipulation, maximum basic daily fee for a Care Recipient is currently $50.16 which is below the daily pension rate.

How do I pay my Accommodation Costs ?

Ottoman Village Aged Care does have a bond of $350,000 for those Care Recipients which the department of health deem to be required to pay a Care Recipient Accommodation Deposit.  Based on the asset and income assessment through Centrelink, the Care Recipient will determine if they prefer to pay this as cash or to pay the bond stipulated.

Is the Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) fully refundable ?

The RAD is fully refundable once the daily fee is deducted.  No administration fees are deducted from the RAD

Is there any Exit Fee / Deferred Management Fee ?

No such fee

What can I bring into the facility ?

The facility provides a bed, bed side table and a wardrobe. Care Recipients must bring personal clothing and personal items for their room. Ottoman Village Aged Care provide toiletries, sheeting, blankets and personal hygiene items and all kitchen needs as well as activity needs.

Can I have a phone in my room ?

There is a tv point in each room. There is no phone point. Most Care Recipients have mobile phones in their room. There is a coin operated phone in the facility for Care Recipients and public use.

Can I keep a pet in my accommodation unit ?

Pets not permitted.

Do I have to eat in the dining room, or can I take my meals in my room ?

Care Recipients are encouraged to eat meals in the dining room as it allows for social interaction. Residents who are not well enough to enter the dining room, eat their meals in their rooms. Care Recipients can be served meals in their room if prior notice has been given.

Am I able to take time away from the facility with family, friends and myself ?

Social leave during the day is encouraged. Care Recipients can leave the facility and return as they wish (by advising the nurse in charge of their plan to go out of the facility and  of the expected return time).  Overnight social leave is acceptable by a case by case scenario (notice to be given to the nurse in charge).  Care Recipients are encouraged to live a “normal” life. Social outing and overnight trips are encouraged.

When are my family and friends allowed to visit?

Next of kin and immediate family are able to visit from 9am to 10pm. General public visiting hours are 9am to 8pm. At times of ill-health or palliative care, family are permitted to visit from 9am to midnight with due respect to our privacy and restricted noise policy (keeping in mind that noise is to be kept to a minimum as not to inconvenience other Care Recipients).
